Hermosa Valley Safety Procedures
One of our primary goals as a school staff is to provide a safe learning environment for students.
Visitors and Volunteers: All visitors and volunteers must report to the school office, sign in, present photo ID and obtain a visitors badge. The badge is to be worn at all times while on campus. All classroom volunteers must also have current TB test results on file in the school office. If you are not sure if you have a TB test on file or if it is still current and not expired, please check with Betsy in the school office. Please report back to the school office before leaving school to sign out and return badge. Exit by the main entrance.
Traffic Safety: For morning drop off please use the valet service in front of the school. Pull up to the curb and allow the student volunteers to open the passenger side of your car door and have your child exit the vehicle with his/her backpack. Do not try passing a car in front of you when you are in the valet cue. When picking up students after school, please do not park on the curb. Traffic needs to be kept flowing through the pick up area and it is unsafe for students to walk between parked cars. Please do not honk while waiting for your child and no cell phone use while in a moving car. Also please do not park in the staff parking area.
Please remember when crossing streets to always use the crosswalk and to look carefully in both directions before crossing. We have had some calls from concerned parents and local citizens who have seen students running across Valley Drive to the greenbelt from between parked cars and without checking for oncoming traffic
Please see the website for Safety Letter from Principal Rudek.
After School Programs
Please do not attend any after school programs unless you are enrolled in the program. Please do not sit in a class to wait for a friend or for any other reason unless you are enrolled in that class. Thank you!
Forgotten Lunches, Homework, etc.
Parents may drop off in the school office lunches, homework, etc. that their student has left at home, however we will not interrupt the classroom by calling in to tell the student that his lunch, homework, etc. is here. Please remember that if you have left your lunch or homework at home to check the school office to see if it has been left there by your parent.
Sno Cone Tuesdays
You may purchase a sno cone for $1.00 after school on Tuesdays . Look for the sno cone machine located in front of the District Office.
Lunch Program
The price of lunch is $3.50 and if you are paying for lunch with cash or your lunch card, please be sure you have it ready before getting into the lunch line. If you do not have $3.50 cash or your lunch card, you must go to the Blue line. Thank you!
Grades 6-8 Science Olympiad

Bike Safety
If you are riding your bike to school, please remember to ride safely and to wear a helmet. Please pick up a bike card in the school office which when signed by student and parent gives the student permission to ride his/her bike to school and lists the school rules for bike riding. Also remember to always take your bike home after school and to not leave it in the bike cage. Bikes that are left overnight at school are often gone the next day.
